北大汇丰英国校区开办暑期线上国际课程

受新冠肺炎疫情影响，许多大学转向线上教学。北京大学汇丰商学院英国校区也迅速切换了教学模式，依靠现代科技应对疫情挑战，为师生的安全护航。8月10日，北大汇丰英国校区开办的首个暑期线上国际课程正式开课。课程聚焦“学术论文写作”，从10日持续至15日。来自中国内地及香港，以及英国本土的不同学科背景的学生参加了学习。
课程教师为北大汇丰英国校区的Carryn Yong博士。Carryn博士曾在牛津大学获得语言学博士学位，在学术写作和商务英语方面具有丰富的教学经验。本次课程涵盖了以下6个主题：学术语言；总结、改写和摘要写作；研究问题设计；方法论；文献综述与学术诚信；分析与讨论部分写作。该课程通过对学术论文写作进行全面且深入的介绍，结合课堂、辅导以及独立完成大量阅读写作任务等三种模式，为学生明确了学术写作的规范和要求，夯实了学术写作基础，提供了必要的学术写作技能训练，从而帮助参与者撰写出经得起学术审查的高质量的学术研究论文。尤其对于母语非英语的学生来说，该课程从语言角度提供了相关策略指导，增强了他们进行学术写作的信心。

Through our academic writing online learning program, I have gained advanced academic writing skills including how to determine the topic and main thesis, how to structure the essay framework, how to adopt a standard writing format, how to correctly cite literature and how to use words and sentences accurately and appropriately. The arrangement of the courses is in well structure and good order, both teacher and teaching assistants are very attentive. The teacher explained in detail and included examples to help us better understand, and the homework exercises after class included a wide range of areas, which allowed us to explore new knowledge and develop better writing skill.
Student from Mainland China:
Thanks for the wonderful lectures. Dr Carryn Yong has given to us. They really benefit me a lot, especially when we took the lecture of plagiarism. Before this lecture, I just thought plagiarism was something too far away from me and I would definitely not have. After the lecture, I came to know that plagiarism was widely found even if we did not realize it. What we can do is try to avoid it and check over and over again. I have learned so much from these lectures and I think they will definitely help my application of PhD.

The academic writing course last week has been of great benefit to me. I am now preparing for the research proposal of the PhD and the writing part of the GRE exam. At the same time, I am also searching for some blockchain and industrial upgrading related literature to support my PhD application，and I also started planning to write an article and submit it to journals，last week’s course gave me very clear guidance from the framework of academic writing to the writing skills of each part. I am very grateful for taking this course，the courses taught by Dr Carryn are rich in content and the design and arrangement of the courses are also very good，many thanks to Dr Carryn for her outstanding teaching.
